Centering Myself

I am a potter. I believe in the beauty of handmade things. Making pottery is a deliberate attempt for me to slow down, center myself, and focus on my own artistic outlet and craft. I value the limitations of working with one medium and the certainty of its behaviors. My forms and designs focus on function while emphasizing simplicity with pattern. What is most compelling about the use of pattern is that its meaning can be elastic and fluid, requiring only one small graphic element used in repetition to become something greater than the sum of its parts. Many of my patterns and stamps are handmade to further emphasize a piece's unique and handcrafted quality. It is because of these handmade stamps that I can leave a print of myself and my individuality within each piece.
